Couples Counselling During Lockdown

Have you and your partner been struggling during the lockdown? Whether you had problems in your relationship before the COVID-19 pandemic or they have recently been conjured up due to the fact that you're having to spend a lot more time together while having to stay at home, there are ways that you can overcome this situation.Continue reading this blog for a closer look into how the current circumstances can affect your bond with your significant other, as well as how couples counselling during lockdown could be your best bet at retaining your relationship and looking towards a brighter future for your partnership.

How The Lockdown Can Affect Relationships

Whether you have recently moved in together, have lived together for a long time or are having to spend lockdown apart due to the current climate, all of these scenarios can put a massive strain on your relationship. If you're living together, chances are you're spending a lot more time together, treading on each other's toes and lacking in having your own space. This can cause a lot of heat between the both of you, especially if you're not working and are struggling to find activities to do so that you both stay occupied. Additionally, if you had only recently moved in together or decided to stay with each other during the lockdown, this can be extremely challenging too. Living together is already such a huge life change, and now you're having to experience it in full force. On the other hand, if you're apart during the lockdown, and are only meeting up for the occasional social distanced walk, this can also have a significant impact on your relationship. What once was a very intimate bond, you are now having to resist contact. Not only that, but you will most likely begin to miss each other, and making an effort will be vital in order to keep your bond intact. Without putting in the effort and by not communicating how you're both feeling, you may start to feel distant towards one another, and it'll begin to put a strain on your relationship when you finally address the issues.

What You Can Do To Help Your Relationship During The Lockdown

Now that you've established why your relationship is struggling during the lockdown, now is the time to find ways in which you can overcome these obstacles in your relationship. Being honest and communicating is vital for overcoming these barriers, whether you live together or not. Also, as previously mentioned, putting in the effort when not together and even when together is necessary too. While staying in, organise a make-shift date night that you both get dressed up for; this will still feel special and as though you're both trying to keep the fire burning. When not together, have FaceTime calls and go on romantic walks; as long as you're making an effort and enjoying your time together as you usually would, your relationship will have a higher chance at overcoming this situation. While living together, make sure that you're doing your own thing in between spending time together. While you're meant to be working or spending time apart in normality, going out for individual walks or spending time in separate rooms is the best way to replicate having your own space.
